If I had a penny every time people asked me where I was going to pick NYC apples, I would be rich! Unfortunately, I was only arriving yesterday when I took a school trip to the Terhune farm. The farm is near Princeton, New Jersey, and is amazing as they come. It is a great place to pick apples and a few fruits such as strawberries, cherries, green berries, pumpkins, and mom (although I am not a big fan of moms theirs are too good to be liked).
In addition to your own choices, the farm offers several exciting activities that include feeding farm animals, wildlife trips, exploring the farm market, and managing gift baskets. But as I was visiting the school, my tests were limited so I could not see or do much. The farm is a stone’s throw from Lawrenceville and Princeton, so you can easily visit and have a fun time between the orchards and orchards.
Although apples are far from organic, the farm cultivates them with a natural chemical from growing mothers, called pyrethrum oil (so considered healthy, natural, and safe to use). Although apples are not organic, they grow other organic products that you will enjoy. They grow more than 46 kinds of plants and fruits from apples to zucchini. Terhune farms use sustainable processes and integrated pest control to grow their crops. They are also certified, organic producers.
Your selection of apples and all other fruits is available from April-October. September is specially set for apples as autumn rolls around. Apple trees are small and secure with wire trellis, so growers can easily form apples on the ground. Apples on the Terhune farms are shiny, sweet, and juicy (you can’t get enough of them). Saturdays and Sundays are good times to pick apples from the farm. If you are passionate about your choice, we have a few related topics on our blog that you are sure to enjoy!
