We have just returned from a family reunion in Florida, which includes a stop at Disney World. I have always wanted to take children to a magical place, especially because of their “gold standard” which is famous for serving limited food customers. Well, I too was curious and wanted to know if it was all “hype” or “truth”. Guys, it was far from “hype!
Walt Disney World is home to gazillion restaurants, food carts, and stands. It is equivalent to a food paradise for people who are allergic to food and those who do not. Yes, the menu caters to people with special dietary needs and goes to great lengths to fulfill their cravings and nutritional needs. Walt Disney World welcomes people with common food allergies and intolerance and offers low sodium, fatty, and sugary foods as well as Kosher foods and vegetarian diets.
Visitors with special dietary needs and unusual allergies, PKUs, and metabolic disorders are required to contact and notify Disney, 14 days prior to arrival – and after booking at the restaurant. However, if you do not like certain foods, it pays to do your homework before taking the next flight to Disney. Naturally, you’ll want to avoid Trattoria Al Forno on Disney’s Boardwalk if gluten makes you sick – assuming Italian dishes are loaded with gluten. But contrary to your thinking, this place has delicious gluten-free options for you to enjoy your meal.
So before you visit restaurants, you should do some research by scanning their menus online. It will be interesting to note that Disney has a number of websites dedicated to allergies – making it a perfect research center for your malnutrition and hypotheses. But beware; some of Disney’s restaurants are not Disney’s, so you want to tread carefully and do more research before satisfying your diet. All in all, we love the way Disney World treats good guests with food allergies and food restrictions. Learn more on our blog!
