The 2023 Women’s World Cup captured the world’s attention with its brilliant rising interest in women’s soccer. It had its roots in the hard work and dedication of a group of pioneering women who laid the foundation for women’s soccer in the United States 38 years ago. Flame Bearers recently launched a special edition that has taken the town by storm. Released on August 23rd, 2023, this edition focuses on the inspiring journey of the first US women’s soccer team of 1985.
The story of the US Women’s National Team’s journey, with all its twists and turns, remained a testament to the power of perseverance, teamwork, and the enduring spirit of women’s soccer. United States Women National Team has also honoured Flame Bearers Special Edition on its Instagram account. This is one of the greatest recognitions Flame Bearers has achieved.
“Have you ever wondered what it was like for the inaugural United States Women’s National Team? The 85ers were the first to ever represent the USA in international play when they took the pitch against Italy in the Mundialito. Those 17 women set the foundation for the team we all love today. @flamebearers has gathered the team members to share their stories in the latest podcast series, Flame Bearers Special Edition: OG US Women’s Soccer” quoted the USWNT on official Instagram page.
Jamie, Founder and narrator of Special Edition after receiving such an honour commented, “I’m glad, that our effort received well deserved recognition from the USWNT. They are indeed a very successful and inspiring team. We are very proud of being associated with such a remarkable team. We look for groups for greater associations and relive the history each and every day to create a better future for all women in sports. She added, “The amazing 85ers set the stage and raised the bar for women in US to watch and participate in sports incredibly. The team of 17 fearless women in 1985 were the first ever USWNT. This event brought the change. It’s always an honour to wear the USWNT jersey, but for 85ers, it was special.”
As the Founder of Flame Bearers, Mittelman has long viewed her responsibility as not only spotlighting the achievements of women but also allowing them to tell their stories in their own words. She believes reclaiming the narrative and communicating their journeys encourage younger women to see more paths forward today.
