The hardest part about giving books as a gift is choosing something that the child has not yet read or received. There are some famous classics, such as Good Night, Moon, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Where the Wild Things Are for Little Kids. And many children have already learned about Harry Potter or the Little House in the Prairie series. No one offering a book as a gift wants to hear, “Oh, I already have that!”
Books are wonderful gifts! Encouraging reading is one of the best things we can do for our children. Whether you are giving a holiday gift or giving children summer reading materials, these are some of the BEST books for kids!

Your third grader will love this book. They are interesting books and a great way to present good historical events – especially those that can be difficult to talk about with young children, such as 9/11. The book does not cover every scene but focuses on heroes and survivors.
- HARRY POTER AND FIRE COLLEGE: SOURCE PLAN
Author: J.K. Rowling
This is the latest addition to the iconic series, but the whole set is a great addition to any Harry Potter fan shelves. And they are a great choice for kids who have just joined Hogwarts; we loved looking at pictures when we read Harry Potter books aloud.
One of our favorite books we read over the years is Tana Hoban’s Push Pull Empty Full. Yes, we are still reading our 8-year-old child very late at night when I need to read a book for about 20 seconds. It is well designed, and the pictures are beautiful. It is a kind of book that is not on the shelf, which makes a smart birthday present for a 2 or 3-year-old child.
