The art of reading stories is a skill anyone can develop. Stories are there to change your reality for a moment, bring you into the world of the characters, feel what they feel, piqué your imagination skills, and at the climax, get explosive with the right emotions.
If you find reading stories boring, start small with short stories. Long novels may seem unending and a waste of time (even if they are not), discouraging you from cultivating the habit of reading. But short stories, especially eBooks, are captivating, straightforward and without many twists and turns, perfect for a reading newbie.
One author who writes terrific short stories is George Saunders. He is a renowned American writer of short stories, essays, novellas, children’s books and novels. He is also a contributor to various magazines, and his writing has appeared in The New Yorker and elsewhere.
We are psyched to buy his new eBook, Fox 8. It’s a short story/fable/kid’s book, illustrated by Chelsea Cardinal, an art director at GQ and an insanely talented artist. Check it out – it’s only $9.99.
If you have exhausted your story bank and are running short on bedtime stories to tell your kids, this new short eBook is perfect for a new story night. Don’t be surprised if you also get engrossed in it, as your kid is guaranteed to.
Here’s an excellent George Saunders reading list from DALS if you aren’t familiar with his work. You can guarantee you’d be sucked into his world and never want to go a minute without reading his books.
Have fun reading and reading to your kids!
