You must have heard of the depreciating state of our planet and talks about sustainable ways to save the earth – including recycling and upcycling, running plastic-free ventures, sustainable energy sources, and others.
Well, the beauty industry is not left behind. Terms like clean, green, natural, organic, eco-friendly, nonchemical, and sustainable are words used to describe beauty products that produce less waste that is harmful to the planet.
One way to be sure a green product is actually green is through the ingredients. Look out for chemical actives and components that do not represent the plant-based community. In essence, if the ingredients of a product are more chemical than they are clean, then that product is far from being a green brand.
Another way to know if a product is green is to look out for the labels. Vegan, cruelty-free, bio-based, biodegradable, ethical, recyclable, and others are labels usually used by clean brands. However, anyone can use the terms in the guise of being a sustainable brand. Still, only those faithful to these labels will go the extra mile to educate their customers what these terms mean and what about their products is sustainable and green.
A stronger conviction that a product is green is the certification to prove that brands have gone through programs to ensure the ethicality of their products—for instance, the production, packaging, and whatnot.
The next thing to do is stay connected with truly certified green brands and beauty influencers who support the sustainability movement.
