As someone who has struggled with excessive sweating for as long as I can remember, daily activities were often embarrassing and made me so self conscious. I had both palmar hyperhidrosis (sweaty hands) and axillary hyperhidrosis (sweaty underarms), which made even the simplest tasks, like shaking hands or wearing certain clothes, a source of embarrassment and anxiety. It affected my confidence, my social interactions, and even my wardrobe choices. I tried every antiperspirant and remedy out there, but nothing seemed to work long-term. I remember during the pandemic I couldn’t even pull latex gloves over my hands because of the sweat. That’s when I decided to post on Instagram and ask if anyone had the same issues with any suggestions or solutions.
I received a lot of responses with suggestions I had already tried, but to my surprise numerous people suggested Botox or Dysport and how it had changed their lives. I was shocked to learn that Botox injections could be used for medical conditions, beyond just cosmetic and anti-aging purposes. I started researching and digging some more and found that there are particular advanced injectors who are certified and specifically trained to treat this. I also learned that it requires a certain level of skill and expertise to be able to do it correctly, safely, and effectively.
After two days of researching, I came across a post on social media from someone who was praising an amazing Med Spa they had recently been to, that treated her sweaty armpits. I messaged her asking which Med Spa and who the injector was. It was Skinbiotic Med Spa in west Los Angeles. I looked them up online and all I kept coming across were incredible reviews, mostly mentioning the attention to details and the level of experience the providers had. A few of the posts mentioned Kami to be the seasoned and expert injector. So I took a leap and made my first appointment at Skinbiotic Med Spa in Westwood, Los Angeles.
The idea of a quick, minimally invasive procedure to finally solve my years of sweating issues sounded almost too good to be true, but I was so ready to try it.
During my initial consultation at Skinbiotic, I met with the lead injector Kami, who was incredibly knowledgeable about hyperhidrosis and explained how the treatment works. By injecting Botox or Dysport into the affected areas—such as the underarms, palms, or even soles of the feet—the neuromodulators block the nerves that signal the sweat glands to activate. For someone like me, who experienced constant wet armpits and clammy hands, this was a game-changer. Kami recommended a minimum of 25 units per side but noted that in some cases up to 80 units might be necessary depending on the severity of the sweating. After she examined me, she suggested that in my case, we start with 35 units on each side, and if needed we can always increase it a bit more the next time we did the treatment in 3-4 months. But of course she was right and we never had to go any higher. 35 units on each side is what I still receive every time I go in for the treatment.
The procedure itself is quick and surprisingly painless. It takes about 15 minutes for the injector to prep and administer the injections into my underarms and palms. There was a slight discomfort (more like tickling) the very first time I received it, but that’s about it.
The results? Absolutely life-changing!!
I noticed a significant reduction in sweating within just a few days. Now, I can confidently shake hands without worrying about my palms being wet. I can wear shirts with sleeves, lift my arms without hesitation, and even hug people without feeling self-conscious. It’s incredible how something as simple as a few injections had such a profound impact on my daily life.
