It’s grill season and you know what that means, it’s Hamburger season!
If you’re a regular consumer of this mind-blowing sandwich, then you probably already know about the juicy, meaty goodness of a good burger. At the same time, you’re already aware of how boring it could get when you’ve had a lot of the same type of burger.
The last thing you want is to lose interest in burgers (even though that’s highly unlikely to happen), but adding a little spice and variety to make your burgers more interesting turns things up a notch.
How To Spice Up Those Burgers
One of the easiest ways to add a little interest to your grilling repertoire is to put a spin on one of summer’s classic dishes, the hamburger. For a new twist on this backyard mainstay, change up the standard ground beef with lamb, turkey, salmon, or veggie patties, like these homemade vegetarian Sweet Potato Coconut Patties.
Complimentary or contrasting tastes and textures should always follow the lead flavor of the meat or other protein and should support the dominant taste. Two or three flavors and textures produce a well-balanced burger and can be further enhanced with a couple of intensive flavors.
Add intensive flavor in the form of cheese, relish, pickles, chutney, tapenade, and condiments to add a prominent edge of flavor without overpowering the rest.
Did you know if you put a thumbprint in your burger, it will cook flat, rather than bowing in the middle? So it cooks more evenly throughout. Somehow, this is something I just learned from my husband, who has been doing this for years, and I never noticed ’til now.
