My sister and I spent the day in Ojai, California, which is about an hour or so north of Los Angeles by car. We spent the night at the Ojai Valley Inn, which is a sprawling property with a beautiful golf course (I don’t care about golf and I still liked looking at the rolling green), a nice pool for families (and one for just grownups), tennis courts, and stunning mountain views. We did a three-hour hike from the Pratt/Foothill trailhead. It was just strenuous enough to feel like a workout and the views were amazing. The highlight, however, was an outdoor used bookstore called Bart’s Books. It’s been there for years–in fact, I remember going as a teenager–and couldn’t be more California. There’s a selection of tea, a fire pit, a cat, and miles of books to browse.
