la colombe

If you happen to be in New York, and you like olive oil cake…you need to check out La Colombe on Lafayette St. Order a cappuccino or a latte, and get the olive oil cake. It is probably the best thing we’ve ever eaten. We’ve had lots of different olive oil cakes, but none of them compare with this. And don’t think you’re getting the recipe out of them. We even met the woman who makes it for them, and she won’t give it up.

Was La Colombe’s cake lemony? I’ve never had one that wasn’t paired with some sort of citrus.

I’m such a sucker for olive oil cake. It’s so simple, yet one of the the most delicious baked goods I’ve ever had. I love Gina DePalma’s from Babo in New York City. I’ve baked hundreds of desserts over the years and her cake is still my hands down favorite. It’s not complicated to make and always a consistent crowd pleaser. I have her recipe and photos on my blog: http://dozenflours.com/2009/02/torta-di-mandorla-moist-almond-cake.html
