My friend and neighbor Tara Shafer recently launched Reconceiving Loss for anyone who has experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth. The site provides suggestions for writing prompts crafted by novelist Edie Meidav that a user can keep private or share in any way she feels comfortable, yoga and mediation practices specific for this community, and information from people in the medical field. There’s also a space for men to express their own grief and if they choose, connect with others.
As Tara points out, there are close to 2 million pregnancy losses in the United States alone every year, but very little space for the grieving process within the larger pregnancy and parenting community.
Andrea Pyros writes often about parenting for publications including Mint, LearnVest and Sesame Street Family. She lives in New York’s Hudson Valley and is the mother to two children, one of whom has food allergies and the other of whom refuses to eat eggs even though he can.
