It’s the highlight of my existence as a fashion editor to encounter something completely unexpected. Here I was, visiting my BFF, and she wanted to check out the Yigal Azrouel pop up shop in Bridgehampton, NY. We passed once through the ladies’ racks, and there, on an old-fashioned rotating clothesline, were tiny little t-shirts and reversible baby blankets secured with the tiniest of clothes pins. Of course I accosted Franco, the unsuspecting salesclerk. “What? Baby clothes? Is Yigal designing a line? When did this happen?” It would not be the first time a designer would tread into that territory. The answer was sadly “No, I don’t think so,” that the exclusive super stretchy “cut” tees (that I was assured would accommodate a growing child) and “cut” blankets were made from the leftover scraps from the most recent SS2011 women’s collection. Supersoft and stretchy, I could just see one on my friend’s three-year-old wearing one, belted, while she runs around in her Saltwater sandals, and then later on she could wear it as a top. And the blankets—bright but not too bright, yellow on yellow stripes? The perfect gift for my “fashion” friends who already have “everything”– and who doesn’t have a few of those friends? I also have to say this would be a “matching” sexy mommy/ adorable daughter combo to die for if you’re able to splurge on a little something for yourself.
Sweet Franco took the lovely photos shown here and emailed me the deets. “The store will be open till Labor Day. 2415 Main St, Bridgehampton,NY 11932.(631) 537-0143. Baby items are exclusive to our Hamptons store. Ask for Franco!” Smiles all around.
