Every day in our office at Condé Nast Traveler, we get to work with our wonderful fashion director and friend Sarah Meikle. And every day we end up asking her about every single thing she is wearing. Today she gives us the full scoop.

What makes the uniform the uniform?

My uniform consists of mixing navy, black, white, blue. I have a variety of crisp mens type button downs in blues and stripes that I like to layer with skirts and jackets. Its super easy in the morning to get dressed because it all layers and works together. I have three young children so not much time in the morning to think about an outfit.

How long have you been wearing the uniform?

My mornings changed drastically when I had three kids in school so I pretty much forced myself to figure out a daily uniform so I can get ready in a jiffy. I add to it every once in a while by buying a new length skirt, an interesting jacket, or a new shirt. Im also a real sucker for a Breton striped shirt. Easy to mix in with my uniform too as its consistent with my uniform colors.

How did this look come about?

Ease & time & efficient

How can we copy it?! What are the elements to know and look out for?

I look for things to layer. I love when a button down is longer than a jacket and a collar peeks out at the top of a jacket or sweater. Lengths are important to make the uniform interesting and not just basic. I’m always on the hunt for a new jacket to add whether its tweedy, leather, a fun pull over sweater with details, a button down shirt with an embellished collar. Little interesting details help the uniform and brings it to the next level.

What happens in the summertime?!

The uniform stays pretty much the same except when its seriously hot outside. Then I like to wear dresses but they usually keep in line with my uniform. So I look for striped dresses, menswear shirt dresses, short sleeve crisp mens type shirts. In the winter, I can mix these into my wardrobe and add tights. I’m not a heels girl really, I prefer flat oxford shoes or low lace up boots in black that work with my uniform also in a menswear-y way. Its all just fast and easy. Now getting ready for a party is a different story, I stand in front of my closet staring and trying on a million options and I just hate spending my time staring at my closet when I have three little ones to to hang out with.
