Kid Canon

pinocchio opener

I think we have at least three copies of different Pinocchio books—every time I see one for cheap at a garage sale, I have to buy it, as I imagine that it will make a perfect gift for someone. But I think we finally happened upon the best one. This Pinocchio from 1968, functions a bit like one of my favorite TV shows, Pop-Up Video (am I dating myself?!). Whenever there’s a word that you just know your kid is going to ask you about, there’s a definition off to the side, usually written in a clever/cheeky tone. The illustrations are great too. Keep your eye out for it—it’s illustrated by William Dempster and the cover is by Don Irwin. On this used book site, it’s $5.

  1. Oooh I’ll be on the lookout for this! I’m like that about Peter Pan, I have several of them….each time I see one it has better illustrations than the last…

That would be so neat — having the definitions right there in the book!
