I’ve never been one who can bring my own coffee mug from home to wherever I’m headed in the morning. I’ve tried plenty of options, all awkward—they either get cold too fast, or more likely, slosh all over me. But recently, at this very cool store called Edit in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I saw this thermal bottle called S’well, and it had the coolest leather strap attached to it. I asked the guy working at the store about the bottle, and was sold on it, once I heard that it keeps hot drinks hot for 12 hours, and cold drinks cold for 24. The price point was high ($35 for this mid-size), but he convinced me that for the amount of coffees we buy just to have a hot cup, and how often we don’t have water on us and go and buy a bottle…we more than make up for the cost. Then I asked about the leather strap, which it turned out that he (the guy working at the store) makes. He was such a believer in the S’well product, but he wanted to make a cool strap so it would be easy to sling around the wrist. The leather comes from S.B. Foot, who supply leather for Red Wing Shoes, and it’s just a simple, malleable, great looking strap. It makes it easy to keep the coffee (or water) just attached to your wrist, no matter how much crap you have in your hands. His leather accessory business is called Dust Bowl Dry Goods—he doesn’t have a website yet, but you can order them through the store.
