I’m pretty much a fan of everything Katherine and Greg Turpan do in and out of their perfectly edited housewares store, Turpan, in East Hampton. Their minimalist wrapping (pictured here) is reason enough to buy every present from Turpan. It made me think that, while I will likely not make canvas sacks to accommodate my wrapping needs, that using any nice scrap fabric (cut with pinking shears) and twine makes for great packaging–especially for some of those odd shapes come Christmas time. You wouldn’t necessarily need to sew it into a sack, you could just fold the fabric like wrapping paper and tie with ribbon or twine. You could also buy canvas in bulk by the yard and colorful jute twine from any fabric store to get the effect shown here.
