I moved across the street from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens a few years ago and I love wandering the gardens with my boys and then stopping at the gift shop. It has become my hidden spot for last minute kid and adult gifts. The toy selection is well curated and always with a nature or science theme. For adults, I have gravitated towards the mini terrariums, bulbs or books.
For the holidays, I have my eye on the pocket microscope/telescope for my kids. There are some books that are lovely and magical for my extended nieces especially Children of the Forest by Elsa Beskow. For a NYC theme, there are the lovely coloring books by illustrator, Claudia Pearson who is a Brooklyn mom. Finally for the adults, hand made cutting boards and bowls by Phil Gautreau. Much of the wood used is from trees that fell in the Gardens during Hurricane Sandy.
If you don’t live in Brooklyn, they have many of these items online. This place is a hidden gem! Happy shopping!
