Every winter, my little corner of the Hudson Valley goes all out for Sinterklaas, a nod to our area’s Dutch heritage. This year the celebration kicks off with Sinterklaas Arrival Day on November 30 in Kingston and culminates with a full day of festivities on December 7 in Rhinebeck. For festival day, think plenty of art, music, dance, puppets and come evening time, a lovely Children’s Starlight Parade—all ages welcome.
It’s almost impossible to explain the weird and wonderful that is Sinterklaas, but hopefully these shots of last year’s parade by local photographer Douglas Baz will help. If you’re up for a day trip, bundle up and come join us.
