Last weekend my daughter and I watched 180 Degrees South, a documentary that follows Jeff Johnson, a surfer, photographer, climber–who is retracing an epic journey that his heroes, Yvon Chouinard and Doug Tompkins made in 1968. I was initially watching it for a work project (homework), but as soon as we were done with it, we started to tell all of our friends to put it on their Netflix queue, or to buy the DVD. It’s a great movie to watch together as a family–nothing scary or inappropriate. (Although my daughter just piped in that there are some bad words…not anything significant!) Lots of nature, action, problem solving, conservation lessons…but nothing beating you over the head. I also think this make a great gift for any adventure loving kid, or adult.
