bday cake

We love this Waldorf inspired “Princess” birthday, that Maine-based mom Jes Antonis, sent into us. Here’s what she had to say about it: “Being a Waldorf mama/family/family of Waldorf teachers…we wanted to incorporate things like dragons, pennants and wool crowns into our “princess birthday” celebration rather than the widely accepted Disney princess version...the cake topper is vintage German and the golden candle holders were also a gift from Germany, the candles where pink beeswax and the recipe was Martha Stewart’s Maypole cake with her 7 minute frosting.”

I love that bright, beautiful red crown against the blue calico. I love a princess who is not dressed in pink organza. I love rock candy decorations around the cake. YUMMY!!!

That is such a sweet idea…and such a welcome break from the typical girly themes you normally see. LOVE!!!

Growing up on the novels of Little House on the Prairie, this theme reminds me of that little Laura, princess of the prairie! What a lovely alternative to a classic birthday theme! I should want a crown and calico dress of my own on my next birthday.

The crown is beautiful. And I love the primary colors theme, which is such a nice break from girly pastels.

And using vintage supplies like the dress and cupcake topper are eco-friendly, giving a nice break from excess shopping for commercial birthday party stuff that at the end of the party just gets stuffed in the trash. More lasting memories too. Love the German / Waldorf natural theme too. Great party ideas!
