How cool is this subway themed birthday party? NYC mom Ellen Hwang sent us in these pictures of the party she threw for her son Elliott’s 5th birthday.
“Elliott has always loved anything with wheels and that moves. His train set has been one of his favorite things to play with, so we thought the transit theme would be perfect. I was originally going to go with cupcakes and the E and 5 lines, but then I was waiting for the subway when I saw the mosaic and thought that it would be great for a cake. My sister Elsa made the chocolate cake using the Hershey’s chocolate cake recipe and the vanilla buttercream frosting is homemade as well. My daughter Maddie and the birthday boy, Elliott, kneaded the fondant with food coloring to get the right colors. Maddie then helped roll, cut and lay the fondant on the cake. I still used the E and 5 idea for Elliott’s class party. For that, I used fondant on top of Whole Foods’ two-bite cupcakes, cake to be included.”
Full disclosure: Ellen and her friend Melanie have just started a party product/planning business, based in NYC, called Celebrate the Big and Small.
