Ever since Emilio was born, I’ve found myself snapping pictures rapid-fire in a desperate attempt to catch him doing whatever new thing he’s doing (smiling, laughing, rolling over, etc.). Though I only catch the Thing about half the time, I’ve stopped deleting the outtakes, and the series of pictures I’m left with are now special to me in themselves. While I may not have caught him mid-laugh, as I click through the pictures on my phone or camera, I see him kicking, talking, and stuffing his fingers (or toes) into his mouth. It’s like a virtual flipbook of my squirmy baby in action, experimenting with all the things he can do, capturing him, in a way, better than that elusive perfect shot.
(And if I ever get around to it, I want to get these pictures off my phone and camera, displaying the best series in a small framed lineup together somehow, or making flip books for family.)
